Analyze your website pages for technical SEO, content, indexing, metadata, structured data, images, links, and social sharing issues from a single SEO Audit report.

Overview

SEO Audit scans a URL and evaluates important SEO signals across multiple categories. The audit identifies issues, assigns priorities, calculates category scores, and provides recommended actions to help improve crawlability, indexability, search visibility, and overall technical SEO health.
SEO Audit Overview

Run an SEO Audit

You can start an audit for a URL from the SEO Audit section. The audit crawls the requested page and evaluates the available SEO signals.

  1. Open SEO Audit from the Index render dashboard.
  2. Enter or select the URL you want to analyze.
  3. Click Run SEO Audit.
  4. Wait for the audit to complete.
  5. Review the overall score, issues, category scores, and recommended fixes.
Tip: Run an audit after important page, template, metadata, or technical SEO changes to verify that the changes did not introduce new issues.

Audit Overview

The overview provides a high-level summary of the page's SEO health. It helps you identify the most important problems without having to inspect every individual SEO check.

Executive Summary

The Executive Summary describes the overall health of the audited page and highlights the most important findings.

  • Overall Site Health – Indicates the general SEO condition of the audited page.
  • Key Findings – Lists important SEO issues detected during the audit.
  • Recommended Actions – Provides practical actions for fixing the identified problems.
  • AI Generated – Indicates when the executive summary or recommendations are generated with AI.
SEO Audit Executive Summary

SEO Score Breakdown

SEO Audit calculates scores for individual SEO categories. These scores make it easier to identify which areas of a page are performing well and which areas require attention.

The audit can include the following categories:

  • Technical SEO – Evaluates important technical page and crawling signals.
  • Meta & Headings – Checks title, meta description, headings, and related metadata.
  • Content Quality – Evaluates important content-related SEO signals.
  • Image SEO – Checks image-related optimization such as alternative text and image attributes.
  • Link Analysis – Evaluates internal and external links and related link signals.
  • Structured Data – Checks structured data present on the page.
  • Open Graph Analysis – Evaluates Open Graph metadata used for social sharing.
  • Twitter Card Analysis – Checks Twitter/X card metadata where available.
  • Canonical URL Analysis – Evaluates the canonical URL configuration.
  • Accessibility – Checks selected accessibility-related page signals.
  • Mobile Optimization – Evaluates important mobile-friendly signals.

Category scores are intended to help prioritize SEO work. A lower score does not necessarily mean that a page cannot rank; it indicates that one or more checks in that category require attention.

Issue Distribution

The Issue Distribution section groups detected problems by severity. This allows you to focus on the issues that are likely to require the most immediate attention.

  • Critical – Issues that can have a significant effect on crawling, indexing, or SEO functionality.
  • High – Important problems that should generally be fixed soon.
  • Medium – Issues that should be addressed as part of ongoing SEO improvements.
  • Low – Minor optimization opportunities.
  • Info – Informational findings that do not necessarily represent an error.

Business Impact

The Business Impact section translates technical audit results into practical SEO areas that may affect the website.

  • Crawlability – Indicates whether issues may prevent search engine crawlers from properly accessing pages.
  • Indexability – Indicates whether detected issues may affect a page's ability to be indexed.
  • Social Sharing – Indicates whether social metadata is configured correctly for sharing and previews.
  • Visibility Risk – Provides an indication of SEO visibility risk based on the issues detected by the audit.

Priority Fixes

Priority Fixes helps you decide which issues to address first. Each issue can include an impact level, implementation difficulty, and an estimated score improvement.

  • Impact – Indicates the expected importance of the issue.
  • Difficulty – Indicates how difficult the recommended fix may be to implement.
  • Score Gain – Shows the potential audit score improvement associated with fixing the issue.
Important: Score Gain is an audit prioritization indicator. Improving the audit score does not guarantee a specific increase in Google, Bing, or other search engine rankings.

Master Issue List

The Master Issue List provides a complete view of the SEO problems found during the audit. Use it when you need to inspect individual checks rather than only the high-level summary.

Meta & Headings

This section checks the metadata and heading structure used to describe the page.

  • Meta Description – Checks whether a useful meta description is present.
  • H1 – Checks the primary heading structure.
  • Heading Hierarchy – Evaluates the organization of H1, H2, H3, and other headings.
  • Duplicate Metadata – Identifies potential duplication where supported by the audit.

Content Quality

The Content Quality section evaluates content-related signals that can help identify thin, incomplete, or poorly structured page content.

Image SEO

The Image SEO section analyzes images found on the page and identifies optimization opportunities.

Structured data can help search engines understand page entities and content. Passing an audit check does not guarantee that search engines will display a rich result.

Canonical URL Analysis checks the page's canonical configuration and helps identify situations where the canonical URL may be missing, invalid, duplicated, or unreachable.

Note: SEO Audit performance checks are diagnostic signals and should not be treated as a replacement for dedicated real-user monitoring or laboratory performance tools.

Indexability

The Indexability section focuses on signals that can affect whether search engines are able to index the audited URL.

Robots.txt Analysis

Robots.txt Analysis checks the site's robots.txt configuration and determines whether the audited URL may be affected by crawler restrictions.

  • Potential blocking of the audited URL
Important: A robots.txt block primarily controls crawling. It is not the same thing as a noindex directive, and a robots.txt restriction does not by itself guarantee that a URL will never appear in search results.

Sitemap Analysis

Sitemap Analysis checks available XML sitemap information and helps identify whether the audited URL is represented correctly in the site's sitemap configuration.

Audit Coverage

The Audit Coverage panel shows how much information was evaluated during the audit. Coverage can include the number of canonical tags, images, structured data items, links, or other page elements detected during analysis.

  • Images – Number of images analyzed on the page.
  • Structured Data – Number of structured data items detected.
  • Links – Links available for link analysis.

Understanding the SEO Score

The SEO score is calculated from the checks performed by the audit. The score is designed as a practical health indicator so that teams can quickly identify pages that need attention.

Remember: The SEO Audit score is an internal diagnostic score. Search engines use their own systems and ranking signals, so a higher audit score does not guarantee higher search rankings.

Viewing the Full Report

To investigate an issue in more detail:

  1. Open the SEO Audit report for the URL.
  2. Review the Executive Summary.
  3. Check the Priority Fixes section.
  4. Open the relevant SEO category from the navigation.
  5. Review the individual issue details and recommended action.
  6. Fix the issue on your website.
  7. Run the audit again to verify the result.

For ongoing website maintenance, use the following workflow:

  1. Audit important pages and templates.
  2. Fix critical and high-impact issues first.
  3. Address indexability and crawlability problems before minor optimizations.
  4. Improve metadata, headings, content, images, and structured data.
  5. Review canonical, robots.txt, and sitemap configuration.
  6. Re-run the audit after making changes.
  7. Compare the new results with the previous audit to confirm improvement.
Best Practice: Prioritize issues that can prevent crawling or indexing before cosmetic or low-impact SEO improvements. A technically inaccessible page cannot benefit from content or metadata optimization until search engines can access and process it.

Page Overview

The Page Overview provides the basic technical and metadata state of the audited URL. It is useful for quickly understanding what the crawler received before investigating individual issues.

  • URL – The URL submitted for the audit.
  • Final URL – The final URL after redirects.
  • HTTP Status – The HTTP response status returned for the page.
  • Canonical – The canonical URL detected on the page, or Missing when none is found.
  • Indexability – Indicates whether the page is considered indexable based on detected robots directives.
  • Robots Meta – The value of the page's meta robots directive.
  • Language – The lang value detected on the HTML element.
  • Title – The page title.
  • Meta Description – The page's meta description.
  • Charset – The character encoding declared by the page.
  • Viewport – The mobile viewport configuration.
  • Open Graph – Indicates whether an Open Graph title was detected.
  • Twitter Cards – Indicates whether a Twitter/X card declaration was detected.
  • Hreflang – Hreflang information available for international or language-targeted pages.
  • Favicon – Indicates whether a supported favicon link was detected.
  • Crawlability – Crawlability status associated with the page.
  • Performance Signal – Available performance-related signal for the page.

Advanced Metadata Dashboard

SEO Audit includes an advanced metadata analysis in addition to the basic Page Overview. This analysis is used by the scoring and priority-action systems to identify metadata checks that pass, fail, or provide informational findings.

Metadata analysis can be used to evaluate title and description optimization, heading structure, indexability, crawlability, and social-preview configuration. Failed checks can feed directly into the Priority Action Plan.

Tip: Review the metadata dashboard before changing page content. Fixing missing or invalid title, description, heading, canonical, robots, and social metadata can often be faster than making larger content changes.

Content Audit Details

The Content Audit measures the textual content detected in the page body and provides basic content-depth indicators.

  • Word Count – Number of words detected in the page body text.
  • Reading Time – Estimated reading time based on the detected word count.
  • Content Depth – Content-depth classification when available.
  • Paragraph Count – Number of paragraph elements detected.
  • Average Paragraph Size – Average number of detected words per paragraph.
  • Strengths – Positive content signals detected by the audit.
  • Weaknesses – Content problems detected by the audit.
  • Missing Sections – Sections that may improve content completeness.
Content threshold: The current deterministic audit treats pages with fewer than 300 words as a thin-content issue and records content below 800 words as a content weakness. These are audit heuristics, not direct search-engine ranking rules.

Image-Level Audit

Instead of only reporting an image score, the audit can retain individual image findings. Each affected image includes its source and the attributes that require attention.

  • Source – Image URL or source detected in the HTML.
  • Missing Alt – Indicates whether alternative text is missing.
  • Missing Dimensions – Indicates whether width or height attributes are missing.
  • Fix – Recommended action for the image.

The Link Audit provides both aggregate link counts and individual link details. Links are classified as internal or external and can be checked for reachability.

  • Internal Count – Number of internal links detected.
  • External Count – Number of external links detected.
  • All Links – Individual links discovered during the audit.
  • Type – Internal or External.
  • Reachable – Whether the link responded successfully according to the link check.
  • Status Code – HTTP response status returned by the link check.
  • Anchor Text – Text used for the link.
  • Broken Links – Links that could not be reached successfully.
Link checking: The audit performs reachability checks for eligible links. JavaScript, mailto, telephone, and fragment-only links are excluded from these HTTP reachability checks.

AI Search Readiness

AI Search Readiness evaluates structural signals that can make page information easier to extract and understand in AI-assisted search experiences.

  • Score – AI Search Readiness score.
  • FAQ – Indicates whether an FAQ-style H2 section was detected.
  • Lists – Indicates whether ordered or unordered lists are present.
  • Tables – Indicates whether tables are present.
  • Definitions – Indicates whether definition-style content is detected.
  • Missing Signals – Signals that may improve machine-readable content structure.
  • Recommendations – Suggested improvements for AI-search readiness.
Important: AI Search Readiness is an Index render diagnostic score. It does not guarantee inclusion, citations, rankings, or visibility in any particular AI search engine or answer system.

The report exposes separate scores for technical SEO, on-page SEO, content, structured data, AI Search Readiness, and the overall audit result.

  • Estimated Impact – High, Medium, or Low impact classification based on the audit score.
  • Traffic Potential – Estimated potential range presented by the audit engine.
Traffic Potential: Traffic-potential values are estimates generated by the audit logic. They should be treated as prioritization guidance rather than a guaranteed percentage increase in organic traffic.

Priority Action Plan

The Priority Action Plan converts audit findings into an ordered list of actions. This makes the report useful not only for SEO analysis but also for deciding what the development or content team should fix next.

  • Total Issues – Total number of actionable issues aggregated into the plan.
  • Critical Issues – Number of critical actions.
  • High Issues – Number of high-priority actions.
  • Medium Issues – Number of medium-priority actions.

Quick Wins

Quick Wins are low-difficulty actions that still have Critical, High, or Medium priority. They are surfaced separately so teams can resolve useful issues without waiting for larger development work.

Top Actions

The report also provides the top five actions after sorting by priority and potential score gain. This gives teams a short starting list instead of requiring them to inspect every issue.

Response Header Analysis

The report also includes Response Header Analysis. This analysis uses the HTTP response information associated with the audited URL, including the response status, final URL, response time, and available response headers.

Use this section to investigate server-level signals that may complement the HTML-based SEO checks, particularly when diagnosing redirects, response behavior, indexing controls, or performance-related response information.

Markdown Analysis

SEO Audit includes Markdown Analysis as an additional content-analysis component. It analyzes the page HTML representation for markdown/content-structure-related signals where applicable.

Issue Details & Fix Guidance

Individual Audit Issues can contain enough information for a developer, SEO specialist, or content team to understand and resolve the problem without manually interpreting the raw HTML.

  • Category – SEO category associated with the issue.
  • Issue – Short issue name.
  • Description – Explanation of what was detected.
  • Impact – Why the issue matters.
